For over 30 years corporate trainers from around the world have depended upon “Craft Tests” to improve communication skills and provide management with tools they can use to more effectively motivate existing employees. In 1978 it was The Comprehensive Personality Profile (CPP) that eventually became one of Wonderlic Personnel Testing’s primary personality assessments. In 2001, it was the Craft Personality Questionnaire (CPQ) which later was purchased by SHL. Today, it is the CraftMetrics Personality Inventory (CMPI) that uses the most advanced Internet and psychometric technologies to select and train employees.
Our experience with corporate trainers has taught us a valuable lesson: existing employees don’t like to take personality “tests.” So we “crafted” the assessment and its reports to be user-friendly. Our CMPI only takes 15-20 minutes to complete and instantly provides existing employees with either the SalesBuilder Profile Report (for salespeople only) or the TeamBuilder Report. Both of these reports have been written to empower employees to understand their own communication style and recognize the style of other employees (or prospective buyers). The report then gives specific ways in which they can be more versatile and communicate with empathy, using the other style’s language. Most important, these two reports use language that is non-intrusive and free of critical statements.
When it comes to leadership or management training workshops, the CMPI provides the manager with even more information. The Manager’s Report provides 10-pages of insight into the manager’s strengths and improvement opportunities on eight personality scales that represent the scales from nearly every major personality test in the industry. Your managers will learn how their personality impacts others and how they can moderate the intensity of their personality to be more effective managers.
A Personal Note to Corporate Trainers
from Dr. Larry L. Craft
It has been my experience over the years that corporate trainers prefer to use assessments that are brief, easy to learn, and inexpensive. As a result, we have developed the CMPI to meet your needs. You don’t have to attend an expensive workshop to be “certified” to use our assessments. I’ve tried to write interpretive reports that are self-explanatory, and I’ve avoided using “psychobabble” that is characteristic of so many mental health tools used in corporate America.
In the 1970’s, I was a sales manager and became frustrated by how long most assessments took to administer and score. When I received the reports, they were filled with terms commonly used in the field of psychology, not business. So I created my own personality assessment and attended the University of Houston to receive my graduate degree. My Master’s Thesis and Doctoral Dissertation focus on the reliability and validity of the assessment. My research (published in the Journal of Psychology) found that the written interpretive reports were free of the “Barnum” effect found in horoscopic journalism where we say, “that’s me” even if we receive someone else’s report. With the CMPI’s interpretive reports, I’ve made sure they are accurate, yet worded in a way that empowers change.
I invite you to personally take the CMPI and see for yourself. For just a brief investment of your time, you’ll receive the option of instantly printing-out any of the four reports I’ve referenced above.
We look forward to serving you. Dr. Larry Craft
